One of my colleagues has a Vax one thats specifically for pet hair although I dont know if its any good in comparison to other makes.0

I would recommend the Meile, powerful quiet and built to last. It comes with a large and a mini turbine head and picks up far better than the Dyson which it replaced.
The downside is the cost of the dustbags at around £7-£8 for four, but that does include filters.
Admittedly expensive at around £179.99, but cheaper than the equivalent Dyson. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
We hoover about 3 times a day due to our Leonberger,we have a Henry,its brilliant,nothing flash to go wrong,just a head,pipe and hoover,about the £100 mark.
Highly recommend it.

Another vote for the miele here - I've had a vax and a dyson and the miele is the best by far.Never let your sucesses go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.:beer:0

def go for the miele, best build quality by miles.BUT DO NOT USE UNIVERSAL BAGS, if you have problems with miele vacuums under warranty they charge as consumer fault if you have used cheaper universal bags, its around £80 i believe that they currently charge. saw a miele pets onein currys for £125 today, thinks its an older model though0

Sebo, every time.
Cheaper than Miele, just as good if not better.
On universal bags, I wrote this article about them as a lot of them are garbage, I agree. But, you can save cash there and get the performance if you look.

I use one of these

It's half price at the moment and it works fantastically well with pet hair, we have a black cat and cream carpet and this really does the trick.
We just moved out of a rented place with a really pathetic hoover and the rug was such a mess with cat hair we were going to throw it out and but a replacement, but we bought the new Hoover one down and the rug looked as good as new using it.
Plus we got it half price and it still is on the Comet website
and I completely disagree with whoever reviewed the hoover, we've had no problem with the size!0 -
Hiya
before you buy new, it's worth considering your local reclamation yard (tip). Many now recycle goods and i got a working Dyson DC07 for £10! (OK, i had to but an £8 hose too). Ideal for my "hoover killer" puppy who seems to malt - A LOT!!!!0
