Direct Line renewal confusion! Advice please guys :)

O.k Ive been with direct line for 4 years now. 3 years I was a named driver on my dads car and for 1 year I've been on my own. Because of this I have 3 years no claims with them, but only 1 if I was to go anywhere else.
Last year I paid £405 to insure my car, a few weeks later I then added my boyfriend on for an extra £60. Now my renewal has come through at £497! I've been on the website and according to them it should be £422 with NO voluntary excess (currently have £250 voluntary). So where has all this extra come from??
Im going to ring them tomorrow and ask them to match it, as to be honest Im annoyed as hell with them! Ive looked at moving but everywhere else is £500 minimum
Are they likely to match it? And if they dont can I do the old phone trick (cancel then re sign up at new cheap price....)
What do you think?

Renewal premiums are usually more than last years premium. They hope that customers won't shop around and will just pay up.
Even if a renewal price is about what you expect to pay, always, always shop around.
They might match the price from their site over the phone but don't be surprised if they say no. If they say no then tell them you want the policy to expire (don't say you want to cancel as that's something different) as you won't be renewing.
Then go on the site and buy from there.

Might be giving you a cheaper quote online as a new customer to draw you in. Have you tried elephant.co.uk add your dad as a named driver as well and see if it brings it down any. My son did this It was just him and his girlfriend and he added me tp the policy as well. With me being older bumped the price down.Dont know how but it might be worth a try.0

I was in a similar situation with Direct Line car insurance last week. Called them and they told me they would cancel the automatic renewal and that I should sign up for a new policy at the cheaper price online. They said to ring them once I'd done that and they would transfer my no claims over. Did it with no problems.
Another benefit is that they are not currently charging new customers interest so if you pay monthly you will save the interest that you would pay back if you just renewed.Old enough to know better, too young to care!
