    Ah, so what you're saying is even the "fit" banks will be pulled down as the sick banks owe them too much money that won't come back in if they sink?

    Yes, that's right. Also, the newspaper was too depressing to read this morning, and it's started to rain heavily!

    Switched on my SAD light, and things look better already.
    No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    Yep. This is exactly what happened in Japan, and they still haven't recovered.

    At 7.30pm Eastern Time - don't know where one can look up what that is in GMT.
    YouGov: £50 and £50 and £5 Amazon voucher received;
    PPI successfully reclaimed: £7,575.32 (Lloyds TSB plc); £3,803.52 (Egg card); £3,109.88 (Egg loans)

    Add 5 hours to Eastern time for UK time usually. Their summertime is 2 weeks longer than ours (a week at each end) and for those weeks it's 6 hours difference.

    7.30pm = 12.30am.

    That's the Senate vote I believe. The House of Representatives (who booted it out earlier in the week) meet tomorrow and will probably vote Friday.

    None of the Senators are up for re-election in November AIUI. Of the HoR chappies I heard some crazy statistic along the lines that only 13 or so HoRs that are up for re-election voted in favour (or should that be favor). I only half heard it so it could be rubbish.

    100 Senators so the vote shouldn't take long. I read on an American forum that every Republican in the House of Representatives who voted against the bail-out has only a marginal seat, and they had all been receiving hundreds of telephone calls, e-mails etc a day from voters telling them to vote against (and only a handful telling them to vote for the bail-out).

    Very few representatives have marginal seats as there is a massive incumbent advantage in US elections due to election funding rules and also due to widespread jerrymandering.

    The House is the Popular house whereas the Senate is more like the House of Lords.

    They didn't until the small business tax concessions were added...
