My elderly neighbour has just got sky BB. All working fine but when the router is on there is an audible buzz and crackle to the phone line. The line has been checked by a BT engineer and is fine.
If we unplug the router from the phone socket (an extension) all phones are clear. Microflters have all been checked by swapping so unless two out of the 5 new filters are faulty I am at a loss??? Router problem??
Any help most welcome.

Is it a wireless router and are the phones cordless? Have you checked the microfilters by unplugging EVERYTHING from the phone line and only having the router and one microfilter and one phone (no extension cables either)?"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I have had a similar issue that was rectified using higher quality filters, try http://www.adslnation.co.uk/products/xf-1e.php

As above test in the main socket or hidden test socket if possible, this could be anything from a faulty socket to faulty internal wiring between your main and extension sockets or just a faulty filter somewhere.
Also if you have 5 filters installed you may have too much equipment on the line already, what is plugged into the telephone line currently?0 -
I had this problem too. I ended up buying a different brand microfilter and moving the PC and router to the other side of the room. We also wondered about the quality of the cable going from out telephone extension so we replaced that as we think it was old and not suitable. somehow or other it was sorted-still not sure what solved it. Spent months moving and testing everything though-it was very frustrating. Make sure you have correct cabling to handle broadband-not old telephone extension cabling between any extensionsAnnual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0

Now what throws me on this is that all the phones work ok until the router is started and on line? then the noise occurs... Is it simplistic to say that it cant be the cable in this instance because of that? I.E. everything is fine without the router on? I'm an electrician but this comm's stuff has me baffled sometimes...
I am going round there for another bash in a mo but having tried it with most of the filters unplugged I dont think its them.
There was a sky box on the line but i have unplugged that as he has had it for ages and does not use the interactive stuff etc. This leaves 3 phones in seperate sockets inc the main one, plus another phone together with the router in the other extension. All with filters.
Getting to me this one.... i dont like being beaten... lol I dont want to have to rewire it all for him as he has furniture and nic nacks everywhere... would take a day to find a cable route!I save so I can spend.0 -
At the master socket disconnect any wires going to the extensions apart form the wires on terminals 2 & 5. Any other wiring is redundant. Also check if proper twisted pair telephone cable has been used not burglar alarm cable. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Twisted pair telephone cable???
It all looks to be 6 core standard phone cable... the bits i can see anyway.
The broadband works fine by the way. Its just the interferance on the phone line thats the hassle.
And for the extensions to work properly i believe you need 2, 5 and 3 connected. Well my manual says so anyway?! As does the internet guidance i can see??I save so I can spend.0 -

OK you know best, or think that you do!
However on a broadband enabled line, only the "pair" connected to 2 & 5 are required. Any other wires just cause problems. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Expresso that post looks so arrogant... i doubt you would speak to me face to face like that so why on here.....?? I dont see that i was impolite or anything in my question?
You will see i used question marks... which meant i was questioning the sentance. And you didnt qualify your expertise by saying you where an expert in the field?
So i have 3 diy / wiring manuals and i should not believe them but believe you, who i dont know at all, without question? Obviously i would question it??
So, back on track... as your in the field or know about it anyways... Can you explain to me why the 3 is shown looped out from the main socket to all extensions in every manual, diy book etc i can see but not if the line is broadband enabled? Interested as to the reason. Should everyone remove this link if they get BB? Which by default means it needs re connecting if the BB service is removed? I am genuinely interested.
As for my neighbours problem... all 3 of the filters sent by sky where useless. Swapped all his filters for mine and i got the crackle and he got a perfect line! Got him all new ones and all is well.... would have been better had they not supplied any at all!!!
So Fatnbald was spot on re. faulty filters out of the box.I save so I can spend.0
