How long does it take to get the keys?!

Good afternoon,
Just planning my life for the next few months...! In an ideal world, how long does it take from offer being accepted to getting the keys? I've been renting, but had offer accepted on Friday for a flat.
Problem is, the contract on my rented flat ends on 31st of October, and I'm not going to renew as landlord is only offering a 6month renewal contract.
So if I can't get the keys for my new place through in the next month (which I doubt!) I'm going to be putting all my stuff into storage and staying at a friend's house- just wondering how long I might be looking at living like that for!!!? (The place I'm buying is not in a chain).
Thanks and enjoy the rest of your weekend,
Jo
