This gadget fits to your usb, Every time you go away from your pc, You press the eco button, and the computer goes to a special standby mode... Like sleep. When you want the screen back you just hit the button again! Its around £10.00! Not only does it have those functions but it also tells you how much electricity units you have saved and also in money terms as well! Genius.... every little helps!
So this eco button uses energy to illuminate itself to "act strong visual reminder" and when you press it's button, it puts the PC into hibernate/sleep mode. Wow!
Save your money and use your mouse to do this!

Just had a look at the ecobutton rachyroo - unfortunately it seems to have a problem with HP computers. Fiddlesticks.
Good idea though.0 -
Hmm, I'm really getting into this "turn stuff off" idea! however... I'm finding too few things to turn off! I've dug out my old socket power checker thingy, but here's all I can find:
PC on standby, laptop on charge, printer, broadband router, pc speakers, dect phone charger, dvd/tv/vcr on standby. That's about all we can turn off, and saves ~50w total. This equates to 0.05 kwh, or 14p/day, £4.38/m, £50/yr.
BUT... firstly, this lot aren't always on standby, we often turn some of them off. But secondly, (less than) 14p per day is worth it to us to have them ready on standby waiting for us (wash my mouth out with soap and water!). Not a big enough saving!! Our single hifi unit is old and off is "off", the microwave is built in (and has a clock), so no savngs here.
All our light bulbs are energy saving, which is a no-brainer for us.
Anybody else feel the same??Andy

You spend £10 on a piece of hardware to duplicate what you can already do with a mouse or keyboard? A brilliant piece of moneysaving. They sure saw you coming!0 -

What people are trying to say, is that you don't need to buy this. Just change your settings in Power Options so that your computer will automatically go into standby, or learn to do it manually. Vista has a button on the Start Menu. Can't remember how I did it in XP but a google search will tell you.0 -
I too am getting into the habit of turning things off. The trouble is, I think I'm taking it a stage too far because I find my self turning things off when I'm in the midd0

I bought a cheapo keyboard from PC World and it has a 'sleep' button. It sends the computer into sleep mode when ever I press it, then when I want to use the PC again, I just press any button to wake it up.
The keyboard only cost £7.99 or so...This space is available to rent...0 -

It's a great gadget! They really do seem to be getting very popular at the moment. If you genuinely have a desire to save money on your electric bill then the OWL (or any of the other similar devices on the market) will definitely help you do this. :money:Call me Carmine....

Power options on XP Home gives facility to put PC into standby mode after a prearranged time, XP PRO only appears to have option of turning off Hard Discs and monitor.0
