Love him or hate him, Clarkson is the master of getting the point across effectively with a few broad brush strokes. It's why he is so successful, and we all like to knock a success don't we?
    Who is he?
  • A lot of what Clarkson writes is for effect, journalistic licence if you will. So no of course he hasn't got all his money tied up in one institution, he's writing it that way to demonstrate the point he's making.

Likewise the Mexican not paying back his mortgage. He's using a simple example to demonstrate in easy to understand terms how seemingly unrelated financial situations are linked. (incredible how the PC Brigade can pull the racist card out of that simple example, just goes to show how much "racism" is just invented by people getting "outraged". Sad really).

    Excellent post mate.

The racism finders really ones to behold in their 'oh so careing ways' its an Im better than you thing. They dont actually care about the racism they just want to look like they do to have their ego massaged.

They are lower than estate agents

I don't understand why Clarkson used Mexican rather than American? Isn't it the Americans that are not paying their mortgages? Or was it problems in Mexico that kicked this whole thing off?

If so, is there a vote in the Mexican congress tonight, or is it in America?

Or has Clarkson just made a silly mistake?
  • He is probably referring to immigrants and those in very low paid jobs, sub prime mortgage fodder. Their minimum wage is something like 4 dollars an hour I think

Oh I see. So he could have said Hispanics maybe, or perhaps poor Americans? Most of the ones I have seen on TV seem to be white Americans, with a sprinkling of blacks. No Mexicans at all so far. I am guessing that if there were Mexicans buying in the States they would have taken American citizenship, and therefore, really, be better classed as Americans.

Just curious really. Why say Mexicans when it doesn't seem to be anything to do with Mexicans?

Edited: cruel comments about Clarkson removed, as apparently he was correct.

There's a body of opinion that the whole sub-prime/banking crisis was started back in 1999 by Fannie Mae making mortgages (for political reasons) specifically more widely available to ethnic minority groups such as hispanic and black people who formerly (for economic reasons) wouldn't have made the credit-worthy grade:

Whether that is the case or not, I don't know, but Clarkson would appear to believe so and any mention of laying the blame on 'black' or 'African American' borrowers was likely to end up with him in hot water for racism so he chose to concentrate on the latinos, which he calculated won't be an issue in Britain.

And so far, I haven't heard any condemnation about his use of Mexicans as part-scapegoats so he seems to have got away with it.

Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.
  • In moving, even tentatively, into this new area of lending, Fannie Mae is taking on significantly more risk, which may not pose any difficulties during flush economic times. But the government-subsidized corporation may run into trouble in an economic downturn, prompting a government rescue similar to that of the savings and loan industry in the 1980's.

''From the perspective of many people, including me, this is another thrift industry growing up around us,'' said Peter Wallison a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. ''If they fail, the government will have to step up and bail them out the way it stepped up and bailed out the thrift industry.''

So if he referred to "an Englishman not paying his mortgage" would that be racist? How about "a man not paying his mortgage", sexist perhaps? "A person not paying their mortgage" could maybe be speciesist?

How about if I write "I saw a tall man climb out of a car", am I heightest? And if so would you decide that I was being heightest against tall people (cos it was a tall person mentioned), or shortist as it wasn't a short person mentioned?

!!!!!!, mentioning a detail when describing someone or something does not make the comment anti that detail. Mentioning a Mexican not paying their mortgage is NOT even in the most loony leftist sense racist.

One more question, are you Mexican? Or did you just decide to become "outraged" on their behalf?

Maybe he was just playing up to news like that I think people know what he is like.
