Best carpet for wear, tear and cat

Hi all.
I am going to be buying some new carpet for the hall and stairs in my house and was wondering what carpet is best for general wear and tear and also not being attracted to cats. Our current carpet is ripped to shreds, so apart from giving the cat away, is there a suggested type of carpet?
Thanks!
