    See the table HERE.
  • Is this table up to date in the light of the recent changes with Lloyds & HBOS?? What I specifically need to know is - Are Lloyds and Birm Midshires now classed as same banking group in terms of the 35,000 limit for guarantee? Thanks

It has yet to go through (dec 2008) so it's not clear as to what will be decided.

    Another question-

I saw the newspaper yesterday that HSBC and First Direct, although part of the same group, are registered with different codes and are therefore treated separately regarding the FSCS.

    Can someone clarify?

    Many thanks.

just to add, this is the article:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2008/sep/28/banks.savings

further digging might suggest this is incorrect but any advice is welcome.

    Thanks

They are shown as counting as one institution on this table.

If you wish to double-check, enter the institutions' names in The FSA Register check, this will show their licensing status and, therefore, their FSCS cover (the register check is not functioning at the time of posting).

<Edit> Although HSBC says "HSBC Bank plc is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority under registration number: 114216" in its website's legal information, First Direct does not show a separate FSA registration number on its website.

Thanks very much, I tried to find the same info.

Annoying for the newspapers to be giving out conflicting information at this time......
