Mornin' all.
I'm trying to fix a friends laptop (unsuccessfully thus far), and wondered whether anyone could assist, or if they'd come across this issue before.
Laptop:
Packard Bell EasyNote B3605, AMD Sempron 3000+, 512MB ram, SlimType SOSw-852s DVDRW Drive, Win XP Home SP3.
Issue:
Whenever I try to open the drive up in My Computer, I get an error message which says:
"D:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."
In device manager there are no issues being displayed, and I've tried removing the drive in Device Manager, and then using 'Add Hardware', which leaves it in the same state.
I've followed the advice given within the Microsoft Help & Support Article ID: 169620, however as it's for Windows 2000, I can only go so far.
I've also updated the firmware on the drive (Liteon), although appears to have done nothing to help.
Any ideas, lovely people?

Can you withdraw the unit and refit, connections problem...
Did the drive work before SP3?0 -
Hey, thanks for replying
I've not removed the drive, and although I'd be happy to do so if it were my laptop, I'd rather not with this one.
It wasn't working before SP3 (as I applied SP3 myself a couple of days ago), and had witnessed the issue prior to that.0 -
Shameless bump0

You could try this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891894 dont know if thats for desktop systems only though."Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

Another shameless bump.
I've tried removing the drive physically now too, and re-inserting, but I'm still getting the same error.
@shadowdragon - I've tried all suggestions within that help article, without joy.
Any more thoughts?0 -
Try swissknife ~

If it CAN see it, it may be possible to format it:idea:0 -

Thanks for that, but as per the title and my original post, this is a SlimType SOSw-852s DVDRW Drive, and can therefore not be formatted.0
