Estimated bills and fuel price rises
Options
Hi all
First post so feel free to move me, comment etc
I received an estimated bill from my gas and electricity supplier in the last week. Because I didn't give them the meter readings they have estimated the bill, and also included an estimate at the point that the prices rose. This estimate is way too high.
However, this means that if I don't enter my readings and accept the estimate then I am paying for a substantial amount of fuel at a lower rate as their estimate is 20% too high.
Ethically (some may ask why when dealing with these companies!) I should enter the readings, pay for less fuel at the lower rate, and be honest.
Has anybody any experience of this scenario? Does it always catch up with you in the end (e.g. next bill)?
Cheers

There are 2 things here; Firstly if you leave this high estimate in place they will assume you are now using lots more fuel and your next bill will be for even higher consumption and Secondly when they do read your meter this will trigger them to look at your reading history and potentially recalculate all interim bills.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
