On / off switch which way's on??

Hi I have got a rechargable toy and have to charge it up switched off. It has a 'rocker' switch like this but I don't know which way is off .
Does the circle have to be sticking out or pushed in ??

Off is when the circle is down.

DH has insisted that it is off , when the circle is pushed down.

Push circle to turn off-Push 1 to turn on So circle up is on and circle down is off Bluejosiah is wrong,DH is right.
This answer is definative as i have many years experience of playing with Childs toys and gagets (ask the OH)

REALLY REALLY SORRY, I was GOBSMACKED at about 4.15pm today when I was out with a friend when I realised I had got myself confused and told you the complete wrong answer, which is strange as I knew the circle being down meant it was off! Thanks sparky883 for not calling me an idiot!

Have corrected my error above!
