Halifax remortgage

I have just arranged a remortgage with my current provider (Halifax). The new fixed rate deal will start when my current one expires on 31st December.I got the deal over the phone and was told that I dont have to sign anything but when i receive the paperwork I just need to phone and confirm the deal.Am I correct in thinking that I can wait a while and see if a better rate comes out in the next month or two or do I need to ring them straight away to avoid losing this rate if they go up.. I relise that rates look to be on the way up in the short term so I don't wish to take any risks but equally I dont wish to confirm unless i have to. (Cake and eat it springs to mind)Thanks Bog

im with halifax. my fixed rate ended last week. i rang them yesterday for a fixed rate quote, which she gave me, but was told i would have to decide by 4pm.told her it was not long enough so she gave me till the end of the month (2 days).i said i would ring around for some more quotes so she then said the quote would stand till the end of next month.0

If you tell them you wish to go ahead with the deal, you will be reserving that rate (I'm not sure that you have done that yet, as they may just be sending you a quote) If the rates reduce before mid December you can change to the lower deal.0

I will try to clarify. Had a twenty minute phone call to Halifax renewals department, agreed a product 5 year fix 5.89%. Agreed a start date which follows on from my existing fixed rate (end Dec). Agreed to have product fee added to mortgage. So I was told that the paperwork (KFI) would be sent to me (now received)and all I had to do is ring and confirm the go ahead. Now I am happy with the product rightly or wrongly, but I would be a fool to commit now if this rate is guaranteed anyway as I might as well wait for a few weeks.
I have tried ring but they are not open sundays.
Thanks

Bog Brush, I would bite their hand off at that offer, unlikely you'll get anything to top that. We have a similar fixed rate (5.64% / 5 years) got in May with them and are very happy that we chose that. I would be delighted to have your offer in the current climate.Debtfree JUNE 2008 - Thank you MSE:T0
