Freeview TV in student halls of residence

Options
Hi, I wonder if someone could give me some advice on freeview. My son has just moved into his Halls of Residence with a TV and freeview Bush DFTA1001 adapter. At home (in London) he used an internal aerial, and was able to receive all the channels. When we arrived at the halls of residence, the internal aerial barely worked - and there was an aerial point in the wall. So, we went and got a coaxial cable from ASDA to connect up the freeview. Even though it says the signal is about 50-60%, it is unwatchable - very blocky and jumpy. I don't really want to spend loads, just to find it still doesn't work anyway, so any advice would be very gratefully received. Would a better coaxial cable work, or maybe a better freeview box, or a signal booster?

Many, many thanks.

Before going any further, it'd be worth asking other students in the same halls of residence if they're having similar problems.

It sounds as though the halls need to fix their aerial or internal wiring. Can other students pick up freeview in their rooms?

A new freeview box or a signal boster could work. We have just built a conservatory, and our old freeview box hardly picked up any channels in there. We got a new box, and it now picks up all of them. I know someone who can't pick up any channels without a booster, and I know someone else whose reception is worse when they use a booster. It's very difficult to know what will work unfortunately.
