:jPossible ING loophole to get £20 for free...:j
ING Direct are running a promotion at the moment that if you open a savings account before 31 October 2008 and credit it with £1 they will give you £20 to get your saving started. As long as you are a new customer. I got a letter from them today and I've not got an account with them so they must have got my name and address from somewhere - perhaps I sent off for some account information previously?
You can open an account with just £1.
While their savings rate isn't the best on the market it is quite good at 6.5%. Anyhow, putting in £1 to get £20 free in my opinion is worth it.
I tried looking on their web site (link) but it doesn't mention the £20. So I would suggest you phone them on 0800 052 8832 and ask about the offer. I've scanned in the leaflet that has the offer mentioned but not sure how I attach it to this forum? The leaflet had the code "SAVDMLEA3a908" on the back.
I've typed in the terms and conditions on the bottom of the letter:
AER 6 5% variable (Gross per annum 6.31%) including a 1.66% bonus fixed for 12 months from account opening on deposits of £1 and over and is for new ING Direct Savings Account customers only. Interest calculated daily and paid monthly. This is a limited offer and may be withdrawn at any time. Must be UK resident, l8+. You will also need a touch tone telephone in order to operate your account over the phone. Information correct as at 01/09/2008. We may record or monitor calls. AER = Annual Equivalent Rate and illustrates what the interest rate would be if interest was paid and compounded once each year. Gross per annum = annualised rate before deduction of tax at standard rate. we are members of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. Source Defaqto 03/08/08 based on no notice high street banks' saving accounts, balance £1,000. The Fortune Magazine Global 500 rating July 2008. To receive the f20 cash gift, your account must be opened and funded before 31/10/08. The cash gift will be credited to your account within 28 days of account opening. One cash gift for first account opened (single or joint). Offer applies to addressee only. Cash gift to the value of £20 only. All other standard terms and conditions apply.

I just tried to open an account with the code SAVDMLEA3a908 and it wouldn't work, Anyone have another promo code and promo ID?0
-
When I have had similar promos by ING they have only allowed the referers code to be used a restricted number of times. If this one is the same, it might have expired by now. If so maybe better share the code by PM another time?
By the way, ING seem to be the masters of selective offers, they just offered me 6.6% on my dormant web saver account to tempt me back.0 -
just spoke to ING, it was targeted promo at specific people

maybe it'll target me next time.0 -
I have just found a very similar 6.5% with £20 bonus offer they sent to me recently. I think it might have come as unaddressed junk mail given that I already have an account. This, together with the short code, make it look like this particular offer is not personalized, and no harm in trying.
The promotion code is ING007 and it expires end Oct.0 -
I have just used the ING007 code as the promotion and it is asking me to send a cheque for £1 but has said nothing about the £20 will I get it do you know?0

thats a good offer im going to tryonwards and upwards0

Tessie when you apply can you let me know if anything was mentioned to you about the £20? I only am going to send off a cheque if I know Im going to get £20 extra!0
-
You could try opening it on the phone instead, and that way ask them at the same time to confirm you will get the £20. The number on my leaflet to do this is 0800 561 0688 and quote the same ING007.0

Hi
I called up ING Direct and apparently they are only aware of promotions targeted to the person whom the letter is addressed to?
The ING rate drops to 6%AER today as I was informed by them.0
