Help how long for it all to be sorted

i become a single parent last year, i promised myself once id moved and eldest had started school id get a part time job

well i started that job wednesday, was in job centre monday and all my paperwork for comeing off is etc etc was submitted

which means is has stopped, ive rund tax credits with my new info, with my childminders details, how much childcare is etc

now im stuck with how long things are going to take, i get the 4 weeks run on with hb and council tax and need to ring council (which will be done monday morning)

i get paid thursday (its fortnighly pay) ad i worked this week, but thats only around £110, will get child benifit this week but i do not know when or what i will get for anything else, ie how long, i know i get a grant of £250 for comeing off is and £40 a week for a 52 weeks as long as i work over 16 hours a week, but there is no timescale on anything

thursday i need to pay my childminder for the next 2 weeks (just under £500 im lucky she only took a weeks money in advance) i have to pay £49 of my own rent since i moved in as hb doesnt cover it all, plus the usual dd's (gas/ele, tv licence etc plus food and travel to work

can anyone help or shed light on how long things take to settle, im now worried that going back to work is going to leave things bad money wise, last year when i become a single parent it took 7 weeks of living on child benifit before is and tax credits come in, ive got some moneu but its not going to l;ast past month of paying childminder and bills and thats before we have eaten etc

sorry for the ramble, the job centre couldnt give me any time scale on anything and im worried

When i started work after coming off income support, it was sorted straight away and i got my first payment within 4 days and then weekly child tax and monthly working tax.

You could always phone tax credits on Monday and ask them. The £250 took 2 weeks i think to come through and the £40 seemed to take about 6 weeks i believe just to a backlog.

thank you, as long as im not waiting ages for everything then all should be reasonable ok iykwim, if the £40 takes time is it backdated or does 52 weeks start from 1st payment (if its backdated its going away for xmas) im more worried as got ds 5th birthday next friday he doesnt expect much bless him but to get him a cake and something small would be nice (ive got a scaletrix squirreled away from before last xmas boots half price) so not all is lost

Yes its backdated so you get a lump sum. Trust me them sorting out all of this is a lot easier than them sorting out a new claim for income support and tax credits, that really did have me almost having a breakdown lol! I would contact tax credits on Monday though but I wouldn't be surprised if you get some payment this week from them :D Good luck in your new job hun.

thank you hunni and yes remember the feeling well, i was constantly on phone to them last year, they couldnt get it in head that i was living on next to nothing (my youngest was only 7 months old and i had 2 in nappies) i spent 7 nearly 8 weeks on child benifit and my sat job money (another 45) to do me and 3 children (all 3 under 3) oh the joys

fingers crossed then that this week i see something in the way of it all being quicker, not being funny there pushing for people to go back to work but if you wait weeks for things to be sorted what would you do luckly i have some saved away but it wont last past a few weeks

    UPDATE LOL

ive just got off phone from tax credits my panic over i get a small amount on 30th and then normal from thursday comeing (just in time to cover childminder for the next 2 weeks)

just hb and council tax to sort and then the wait for the grant and £40 a week to kick in (but that backdated nearer xmas be handy)

ive got 4 weeks on trialing it all, if its suiting im sticking with work if it doesnt work out this year i rapid reclaim but i dont want it to go to that id rather work

YAY so glad its sorted, told you it'd be quick :D I really hope you love your new job! We were also living on just child benefit whilst income support was sorted out, silly isn't it??? Anyway enjoy spending your grant and the extra £40 a week.
