Re: Barclays Cash Card Ac & NI no.

Hi

I have recently received the application form for a Barclays Cash Card A/c in the mail and I notice it asks for my NI Number. Does anyone know why thye ask for it, as it is not an ISA (I know someone on the board works in the that department). There is a list of people who you should give the number to and none of them say your bank (unless it is an ISA), in fact apart from the people/organistaton on the list it comes across as being a mistake to give it to anyone else. After all they are soon going to get the number when your benefit goes in as they use your NI number as a reference.

Have they changed the rules on who can have it, can they now trace people legally with it???

Also, do you know if they do a full credit search or is it an "unrecorded enquiry" or money laundering check.

Cheers

James

Yeh, I never thought of that as most people on benefits don't pay tax. Might call them up and ask tomorrow.

It is not required to open the account. If you would prefer not to give it, visit your local branch and ask a Personal Banker to complete the application with you there.

The NI number is often recorded as a way to exceed KYC (Know Your Client) data capture standards. It may help in future if you wish to purchase an ISA, or have any tax related problems with your accounts.
