Strange behaviour from new cat

We have rehomed a 15 month old cat, he's been with us for 4 weeks now, it took him a week to settle in properly and then 2 weeks with no problems at all. He's a real sweetie 95% of the time.

This last week, his behaviour has changed slightly, a couple of times a day he will just looked at me, his haunches will raise and he has either bitten and scratched me, or has definitely been about to. The strangest part is whenever this is not happening he will follow me about everywhere (and I mean everywhere!) like I am his best friend in the world. His issue seems to be with me rather than my husband and he is absolutely brilliant with the kids.

It seems to be totally random (to me) when he does this. Last night I sat down with husband who was on a different sofa, cat came and sat next to me, I began to brush him, which has not previously been a problem, and I could tell he was getting worked up so I moved to walk away and he came at me as I had my back turned and was walking away! This morning he was happily lying on the living room floor, the phone rang, I went to answer it, and when I came back I could tell, yet again, he was agitated, jumping back and forth at me, and I managed to shut him out of the room, where he sat outside mewing, obviously upset and wanting to be let in, after 10 minutes I did and he acted like nothing was wrong! I've just been sat on the sofa wearing a christmas party hat (don't ask, 4 yr old insisted) and the cat has sat staring at my head and been mewing loudly, like he was upset by it, and again I could see he was getting worked up so took it off and walked out of the room.

I'm finding this a bit upsetting as I thought he and I had a great bond. He is a gorgeous cat in every way other than this and I am perplexed as to why his issue seems to be with me, when I am his "mummy".

Has anyone else experienced this, or can suggest why he might be doing this or what I can do?

He is male, neutered, an indoor cat and 15 months old.
