1gb or 2x 512 in laptop?

i have a laptop with 1gb, pcworld said it would have 2 x 512 sticks, one on the expansion and one on the mobo, i used crucial and belarac and they both said there are 2 slots, one is occupied by 1024mb.
went in a computer shop and she said it would be impossible for it to only have 1 1024 stick as she has never seen this, she says they always have 2 x 512mb,
is she right?

I remember the days of having to have matched pairs for memory, but thought they were over.

Far from impossible, like rmg1 says. Ram hasn't needed to be in pairs since the early P4 days, with their 16 bit RIMMS.

If the crucial tool says it's got 1 stick, it's got one stick.

I'd avoid that shop in future if I were you.

thanx i was meant to go back with the Laptop, i'm not going to bother.
i felt little confidence in them and they charge £35 for 1gb of ram! :eek:

The attraction with small local businesses is meant to be good service, and that's why you don't mind paying a little more.

Paying double the price to idiots who make up stuff on the spot though...

just a quick update, I finally got it sorted!
the Laptop has 1 slot! (Advent 5311) it had 1gb, so I had to buy 2gb and swop.
crucial were partially right and the computer shop were completely wrong,as were pc world who make the laptop!
it is much faster now and the 2gb has even improved the sound, so worth doing!
