Best Customer Service on Credit Card

Could anyone please recommend me a credit card that is widely accepted throughout the UK, will always protect me against fraud and unauthorised transactions but most of all has best customer service.

I've come from Morgan Stanley to Barclaycard and the customer service makes me want to cry. Morgan Stanley were no doubt 10/10 but I can't say the same for Barclays hence I'm looking to move. Cashback or other benefits no longer matter to me just as long as I can get some awesome customer service.

I'd appreciate any recommendations.

  • first direct every time, closely followed by Egg (just from my own experience). Morgan Stanley were very good too, but I'd second your comments re Barclaycard. Horrendous.

Wouldnt go with Citi, although the card is good, when I lost my card I tried to call up and cancel it. Called their indian helpdesk and they couldn't find me on their system, called again spoke to someone else and they still coudlnt find me. In the end I had to find a statement to give them my account number, fills me with confdence if I had been abroad!
  • First Direct have the best customer service if that is what you want. Just search First Direct and Customer on Google or go on to their enthuse section of their interactive website at https://www.firstdirect.com/interactive and listen to what other people have to say.

Good luck with that one. All of them have been slated on these boards for inept CS staff.

I appear to have been lucky in that I've never had a real problem that required me to deal with CS.

That said Egg have rung me a few times on 'suspicious' transactions which have been neither mine or 2nd cardholders, so blocked them, but when 2nd cardholder tried to book a second holiday (first was ours, second was in-laws') and got blocked, I got the card unblocked in 5 minutes.

I can't fault Egg or Amex. At the moment...

I have had fab service from Amex (apart from getting my credit limit wrong but it only took 1 phone call to complain and they DO call you back when they promise to!!). Phone is always answered straight away

    Nuns! Nuns! Reverse!

  • The only problem with Amex is the fact that it's less widely accepted than Visa/MC, but when I had one the service was very good. I'd second what Paul_H was saying about Egg. CS so far has been very good with polite staff and a problem I had with CC fraud in the first part of the year was dealt with immediately and without any fuss: suppose that's the mark of good customer service isn't it?
