Picked one up today (plenty in Tonbridge) and well impressed with itlaney66 wrote:Went and got one this morning from the Erdington store (Birmingham). Had loads in silver didnt see any black ones. There didnt seem to be that much of a rush for them, people seemed more interested in the £39.99 sewing machines.
Have managed to set it up for my TV, DVD/VCR and Sky box but cant seem to get there with my stereo. Its an Aiwa midi system. Or does it only work with hi-fi seperates? If anyone knows, please tell me.
Got it to work our Sony midi system but only the tuner.
Had no problems tuning it to Sky, TV (Welltech), DVD (Panasonic) and Video (Sanyo).0 -
Got one at Branksome, Poole store this am and they had a stack of them left. Managed to get it set up for TV (Sony), DVD (Targa DP 5100x) and Video (Aiwa) without any trouble. Yamaha HiFi/home cinema a bit more of a problem. Had to use learning mode to get it to work with Amp/receiver, CD and tape players.
Main problem with this thing is going to be me trying to remember what keys I've set up to perform little used functions.0 -
typical - i went to lidl to get one of these and cannot program my telewest cable box in, nor my liteon dvd player, via learn function or otherwise, - therefore it is virtually worthless
i have a feeling that even the most expensive remote won't work with telewest (in a similar way that the only video sender that pupports to work is the very expensive aei digisender gold
if anyone has any suggestions i would be grateful0 -
I think some remote controls use the IRDA protocol - which is what is normally used to send data between devices such as laptops and mobile phones - rather than the traditional remote control system. I have the feeling that learning remote controls won't be able to handle this.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

Yup, ISTR that NTL are always mentioned as needing special remote extenders as they are IRDA rather than plain IR. Although I find that my PDA which is IRDA seems to work with IR devices with the right software..0

You are right re: IRDA. For me it, this remote not working may be the final straw that broke telewest's back. I have been looking to move for a while as I think they are overcharging a captive audience (no NTL or freeview in my area) and I have to be able to improve on the price for broadband, even if I can do nothing about the price of the phone rental and a sky telly package. Off to the phones, utilities etc. threads I go.......0

Which software do you use? i'd like to try this out.ummm...0 -
I got the last 2 a couple of days ago from the store in Moseley (Birmingham). Haven't tried it out on everything yet but I can't get it to work with my DVD player (Skyworth) which would've been one of the most important things really. It works fine though with my Samsung TV.if i had known then what i know now0

Total Remote from Griffin software - Looking at the wbe though, it seems to be dropped from their products. There was also an addon with a real IR LED that plugged into tthe sound socket and gave much improved range.0
