Brown blasts "age of irresponsibility"

I'm not making him a scape-goat.He didn't single-handedly force banks around the world to lend hundreds of thousands to people who couldnt afford it. He aint perfect but he's becoming one almighty scape-goat.
I'm calling him a hypocrite for saying the good times were down to him but the bad times are some-one else's fault. It's Gordon & his budget statements that have over the years encouraged us, foolishly, stupidly, to think that government is in control - like some sort of miraculous Linus Blanket for kids who can't cope with reality.
Politics at its worst, IMHO - both when he was casting his original spells and now that he's disowning them.
Let's not forget he keeps mentioning the sound foundations of the British Economy but the EU and the OECD say we are heading for recession whereas the rest of Europe is apparently on course to avoid it unless international affairs take a turn for the worse.0 -

What a cheek. Talk about talking about shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. This was his age and history will judge him for presiding over it.
Where was he for the last eleven years? The Chancellor i/c our financial regulatory system.
From "no more boom and bust" to this, I just don't know what to say. This was his last gasp for me.
As a credible politician he has now stepped over the line. I hesitate to say what he is, but he is it, big time.
"Its your fault", not mine of course, because I didn't borrow too much, or have vast unpaid CC bils, nor now I come to think of it, did I have all the trappings of a "HEAT" sponsored wedding on steroids.
Or is it mine? why didn't I speak out more, instead of talking quietly in the corner when friends got huge mortgages, ran up large bills for unpaid sofas and kitchens.
I tried quietly and it wasn't enough.

A blooming cheek true, but everyone here should know that the Tories would have done no differently to Labour with housing, as their appointment of Kirsty Allsop demonstrates.
Since both parties went along with the irresponsibilty, any party that gets us out of this mess will be tainted.
Which party will have the balls to move on from the failed policies of the last 25 years?

How did the other parties go along with it? (do you mean labour went along with everything in the 80s/90s, so they were tainted for that bust?)
I thought GB said the prosperity of the last 11 years were all down to Labour. As far as I know Labour have been in power the other parties have not had a choice!
Why did so many vote labour in the last General Election
.
It as been the last 3 years the most damage as been done! Supporting their overspending with a credit filled economy.0 -

As any fule no, the Tories were in favour of deregulation, did much of the deregulation of the mortgage market in the 1980s, encouraged carpet-baggers to demutualise Building Societies in the 1990s etc etc. They have said nothing to suggest that the house price rises were a bad thing when they were actually happening.
Both Labour and the Tories are both up to their necks in it as far as blame is concerned. So lets get beyond the yah-boo nonsense and try to have an intelligent debate.Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable. J. K. Galbraith0 -

They are trying to but if you fail to see it is the ruling party is the cause of this bust then rational debate does not stand much of a chance.
They have had 11 years to change policy and avoid this and what have they done? Sold of our assets!
You seem to be a life long labour support and will not change from that not even with what is going on.0 -

I am not absolving Labour from blame, I am pointing out that the Tories were as bad when they were in power and are equally to blame.
Are you a life-long Tory?
Rational debate is made more difficult when you seem to be incapable of reading my posts:Sir_Humphrey wrote:Both Labour and the Tories are both up to their necks in it as far as blame is concerned.Politics is not the art of the possible. No I make a decision on current circumstances.
How can you blame the Tories after 11 years of not being in power, GB credited him self for the boom!
So you are saying labour were equally responsible for the 80s/90s.
Sorry you are so left wing you fly in a circle.0
