Decorative upvc wall cladding for bathroom good or bad ?

 Morning all , i have a small bathroom which is going to be renovated over the next couple of weeks, at the moment it is fully tiled but as the old bath comes out and a corner shower cubicle is going to be fitted ,we will have to redo the walls The tiles that are on are sound and we did consider tiling over them. As my husband works long hours and weekends, the time issue is going to be a problem especially as he has never tiled before and i can see the job lasting forever LOL. I have been looking at the upvc cladding for bathrooms and have had a quote of £200 for supplying 34 lengths, it is warm to the touch and has a 8yr guarantee. There will be internal and external corners to add on to the price but it should come to about £250.
Has anyone put this in their bathroom, kitchen etc. and how did you find it, was it easy to fit and does it do the job? BSB

I used the upvc tongue and groove from wickes for some boxing-in in the downstairs loo and I think it looks really good and was an absolute dream to work with. I think in a larger area it could look a bit plasticky, but then the smooth, gleaming finish would probably appeal to a lot of people, so it's all just a matter of taste!

How do you get a good, watertight seal where this UPVC cladding meets the top edge of a bath? Is it just case of using mastic?

  • We always run a silicon sealant around bath first (FILL bath with water first and leave after sealing around for a few hours)then seal around paneling after fitting using same method as above
