Why do i get white lines on Black jeans?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place....
I have no idea why all our black jeans get white lines when they are washed, is there a special way of washing them?
Am i the only one with this problem?

Do you use washing powder? If you use a liquid detergent (for colours) when washing dark coloured clothese you may see an improvement.
  • Hi yes i do use powder, i had tried putting just a bit in but still got the lines. I will try the liquid never used it before.
    thanks
  • There are washing liquids especially formulated for washing dark clothes .......Woolite is the one I use. Also, it seems to help to wash dark clothes inside out and on a relatively gentle wash. I have found this has stopped the streaks and patchiness I got on brown and on black jeans.

i found that washing them wih a non bleach product and washing them inside out solved the problem. And
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Isn't that so annoying!
Happens to me alot too and like everyone else, I turn jeans etc inside out. Sadly it happens on t-shirts too and they are harder to keep turned inside out in the washing machine. I have now started getting a damp cloth and just wiping the lines off....
My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being, hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.

  • What makes it worse is my husband only wears black everything, it's such a pain..
Glad i'm not the only one...
  • I know that if you dry them with creases, that makes it worse. I remember my mum always giving dad's black jeans a really good shake before hanging them out to dry...

    Maybe that'll help?
    Nobody I'd rather be ;)

Another vote for the wash inside out, also if you do intend to iron them, then leave them inside out.

    Yes, thats the only way...

wash inside out, always at the lowest temperature you can get away with, pref 30 degrees.

Keep inside out, line dry after good shake and iron inside out definately.

Also, fabric conditioner should be used in extra quantities with denim, especially jackets.
  • Spinning them on to fast of a cycle is the big problem here. Machines going upwards of 1600 rpm for the dye to spread from the creases on spin. Try knocking it down to a 800 or a 1000 for jeans and such. Also inside out helps a lot as already mentioned
