I had been paying a massive £168 per month for gas and electic in a 4 bed semi with 2 adults and 2 children.
Far too much so we made some efforts to reduce this including
- free lost insulation
- free cavity wall insulation
- installing low energy lightbulbs (not everywhere as they arent very pretty, but where they are hidden within a shade)
- Thinking about which lights to leave on - ie using a lamp rather than the 5 bulb light fitting.
- new boiler (yes that was expensive!!!)
Did this for six months and my spend reduced to just £90 gas and £230 for electric!!! Appreciate this was during the summer months but from reading previous summer bills a assive saving still.
Seriously ive never been so excited to open a utility bill - just goes to show what savings can be made with some effort and thought.

Another tip to further reduce your bills - find out how much you use this winter for gas and electric as you have made lots of changes.
From this use a comparision site to find the best deal for your family in 2009...you could save enough to pay for the boiler...0 -
Well done on making the changes too!0
