Scottish Power Problem...

I'm trying to sort out a problem for my mum.

She joined SP 3 months ago. A few days after applying she got a phone call asking if she wanted to go on the capped tariff, which she agreed to. When they increased the prices in October, she got a letter asking if she would like to take advantage of the new capped tariff. She phoned SP to say that she should be on the previous capped tariff anyway. They said they had no record, so tough, but a complaint would be put in.

She didn't hear anything, (although she did receive a letter saying thank you for taking the capped tariff, but at the new prices!!!), so at this point I got involved and emailed them on her behalf, basically telling them to sort it and email back confirmation that she was now on the correct tariff.

Last Sunday, she received a phone call from SP full of apologies and said it would all be sorted. She said that they could only backdate as far as September, but would give a £10 credit to make up for this and all the hassle.

Anyway the bill arrived yesterday. The £10 credit is on there, marked as 'Goodwill', but I think there's still a problem. The bill (electricity) says:-

NSC Option 05/08/05-16/10/05 @5.710p ie. before increase
NSC Option 17/10/05-24/10/05 @6.285p ie. after increase
Capped Domestic Tariff 25/10/05-03/11/05 @6.285p

As you can see the capped rate is at the new prices. The gas section is similar, but the date range is 25/10/05-25/10/05. What's that about?

There's a section at the bottom marked 'Discounts'. Under there it says 'Gas & electricity discount -£2.37' At first I thought this must be part of the annual discount, but this should be £10 p/a (excl. VAT), so would only make sense if it said -£2.50 . Maybe this is the back dated bit?

Can anyone make sense of the bill? Does the £10 only get paid out after 12 months, or should it be quarterly? And does it appear on your bill in the discount section as above?

I'm going to email them back and ask for clarification, but don't want to sound too arsey if I'm just misreading the bill, or if it will all make sense on the next bill.

Thanks for any help.
Nice to save.
