tv usb or tv card?

Options
Hi everyone, I need help and suggestions please :D

With my tv being on the blink I was initially thinking I'd have to go buy a new (LCD) sooner rather than later. However I'm now comfortable with the green faces with a pink tinge so am not rushing to spend money I don't have , however, my desktop also developed problems which have, apparently, now been fixed and I collect it from the shop tomorrow.

My question is: is it worth getting a usb tv so I can use it on my desktop or laptop or should I get a tv card for my desktop? What are the pros and cons for each?

I should say my laptop is an IBM Thinkpad T22, 900 Mhz, 380 MB with 60gig HDD and the OE is Windows XP Professional.

Maybe I should just get a 'regular' tv?

Thanks in advance.

In usage there isn't much diff, i have both and they work just fine, would expect your lappy to struggle with TV though as most require a fast processor to decode the tv stream.
Only issue other issues i can think of are
    1. aerial location, most need roof top except in rare circumstances and
    2. usb ones don't tend to have the sensor for remote on a lead so viewing from a distance can be a problem

oh just thought of another, usb ones require usb 2 be surprised if you're lappy has that
  • That laptop will be able to handle standard def digital/analogue telly no bother.

Digital TV needs more or less the same amount of grunt as DVD playback.

I wouldn't recommend a PC-based solution over a real telly, but if you can put up with the small screen for now, £20 is easier on the wallet than a few hundred quid.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it
  • Thanks for your responses lovely people. At the minute I'm sticking with my pink/green/blue tv and when I get completely fed up with it I'll go buy a new one.
