Bradford & Bingley nationalisation looks increasingly likely

Bradford & Bingley's future looked increasingly uncertain as the City regulator searched for a white knight for the stricken bank.

But there was a growing view among bankers that B&B will be nationalised and knocked together with Northern Rock.

LOL won't the BoE run out of money soon? They've been lending/spending so much money lately, we may see King on the DFW board soon :rotfl:

20p a share is like junk bond status. It's a gonna as an independent entity.

You can always frame the share certificate, to remind you of the "good old days".

I don't even know where it is, or if I even have one... I just got them given to me when Bradford and Bingley became a bank and then I closed my account anyway! I was only about 16 or something (how long ago is it since they became a bank? whatever that is, take it off 22 and that is how old I was :P).
All I know is I used to get some nice cheques every quarter or so for free... Doubt I'll be seeing those anymore! lol.

    Hope you sold them?

It's not even that good, I'm afraid.

What's surprising is the complete apathy being shown by the population.

I've seen it reported that per person, the proposed Paulson bailout in the USA is about half of the liabilities that the British taxpayer took on with Northern Rock. I dunno how true that is though.

Whereas in the USA people don't put up with the government reaching into their pockets to bail out a bunch of wealthy incompetents without a fight - in the UK the flock just go baa baa baa as the government fleeces them.

Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.
