arnold clark used cars-need advice on deposit refund

Hi I went to buy a used car from Arnold clark and was shown one i liked on their computer. It was located at another branch so I was told i had to leave a £200 deposit for the car in order for them to transport the car over for me to view. I had to sign an agreement and I verbally checked that my deposit was refundable if i didnt like the car. the salesman agreed i could have my money back if i wasnt happy and wrote 'subject to viewing and test drive' at the bottom of the agreement. When i viewed the car it had several faults so i declined to buy it. The dealers have declined to refund my deposit as agreed... what can i do? i'm a single mum and and feel i have been taken advantage of.. can anyone offer any help or advice???? thanks

Try the CAB on Monday.

we had this problem with them also but luckily we didnt hand over any money as i refused to hand over a sum of money to take a look. i told them i would travel to the other dealership to have a look at the car at my petrol costs and the sales staff got very stroppy and would not tell me where the car was. needless to say i walked out. Good luck i hope you get your money back but to be honest i wouldnt hold my breath!

Phone another Arnold Clarke dealer and ask for their head office number.
Most dealers in same group dont like each other much so they will probably give you the details if u explain.

Also escalate it within dealer to the top guy. Not the salesman or used car sales manager but the guy above them. Ask for a copy of their complaints procedure and document your complain in writing.
