Hi there
Want to keep a programme we downloaded from BBC iplayer this week, as the iplayer download function only enables you to keep it for a month.
Any free gizmo programmes I can use to save it, and allow me to burn it to dvd as well.
thanks

There's certainly a way to do it... but I don't think breaking DRM can be discussed here without breaking the forum rules.0

There is no DRM at all in iPlayer videos displayed on the Mac / iPhone platform so discussing DRM-related issues for the Mac can't contravene any rules of this form.
There is an excellent piece of software available for the Mac called iPlayer Downloader - http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/28733/bbc-iplayer-downloader - which downloads the Quicktime movie file directly from the iPlayer site. No DRM broken at all and the downloaded file can be watched at any time and even burned to DVD if that's your thing.0 -

But it certainly breaks the licensing terms though. Just because you can do something easily, doesn't make it legal. The time shift exemption to the copyright law is what you're using and the BBC has agreed with the copyright holders and means that you're breaking the copyright law by copying the media outside of iplayer to use beyond the time you agreed to and are licensed by."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

There's no DRM in the streaming version because you aren't supposed to be able to download the programs. If you were allowed to download the streams, they would just make a version of the iPlayer application without DRM and be done with it.0 -

you have a pm0 -
Someone has already posted how to download things from BBC iPlayer, so I think it's a bit late for all the cloak and dagger stuff.
You do know don't you, that moderators on message boards can generally read people's PMs?0 -

no they can't.
unless they have full site admin (ie mysql) access. and on a large forum with lots of moderators, this isnt usually likely.0 -
