I ordered these as a christmas pressie for myself, thought I had got a complete and utter bargain. Opened them up to have a look at them and they seem good quality ??? Not sure they were such a bargain now :-[

Mardale, you are exactly correct. They are by a good manufacturer but their 'budget' range. I reasearched knives for months and settled on Wusthof Classic – 20cm Xtra deep cooks, 23cm bread, 14cm sausage. Never needed any other knives and I smile every time I use them. They were about £120 for the three though. Got them from the op's Ebay shop – Amazon ;D

nb try and handle them in a shop - not easy I know, but try the department stores and then buy from Amazon.

I apologise if I have offended anyone.
The point I was trying to make, although maybe a bit bluntly, is that there appear to be a number of professional marketers on these bulletin boards who are masquerading as the general public. On a number of occasions I think we have seen people with a vested interest in plugging one or more products from one or more providers.
I was trying to point out that maybe some of these posts are from companies like Amazon trying to get their own back on those people who made so much by ordering items like the wireless cards and CD Walkmans etc. from them!
I wouldn't even be surprised if some Sony people were using these boards to build the hype about the shortage of PS2s - certainly if I worked for Sony Marketing that's what I'd be doing.

  • I shouldn't worry Bunglegirl. ;)

These aren't bad knives - as I said they will certainly be sharp and a cut above your average (no pun intended ;D ) knife.

The downside is that they are thinner bladed, will need sharpening more often and will wear faster than better quality knives. Of course, you are only paying £50 rather than £200 for the dog's nuts. I wouldn't call them a bargain, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over buying them either.

  • I'm with Mardale on this one.

It really does irritate me when retailers have these "RRP" prices that are obviously inflated (amazon included). >:(

I have been after a decent set for a while (not yet purchased though) and noticed that especially for knife sets everyone seems to have them at 50% off "RRP". Which seems just one big scam by the retailers to dupe people into thinking they are getting a "mega" bargain.

Henkels do produce top knives - but this set definitely is from their "budget" range.

I personally think you would be better to spend the extra on the sabitier stellar 5 piece set (around £80). I've seen them in a department store - but waiting for the right offer before shelling out. :P
