Cheap professional knives - £150 off

Lurked around for ages but never got round to registering until this morning, hi everyone.
Anyway, spotted these Henckel knives on Amazon reduced from £199.99 to £49.99. These are the knives
Jamie Oliver uses, German made and guaranteed for life!

  • Hi all - long time lurker (scrounger), first time poster.

I just wanted to warn people about these knives. They are made not by Henckels, but by Henckels International. Same company, different 'brand' - i.e. economy.

They are not professional knives. Although they may be sharp, they are stamped blades and very flimsy. They won't feel good to hold or use. I don't believe they have ever seriously retailed for £200.

Jamie Oliver may well use five star Henckels knives (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000ACOUB/ref=br_khcns_2/202-8247700-9467056) but he sure as hell doesn't use these. Henckels produce possibly the best knives in the world, but don't think you'll be getting that quality if you buy these.

Sorry my first post isn't on a happier note, but I'd hate to see people throw good money away on these. Better to stump up a bit more cash and get yourself a half decent forged steel Sabatier set like this:

Sorry, but I'm always suspicious when a newbie registers then immediately posts a supposed super offer, for something which looks dubiously cheap. I would suggest forum readers proceed with caution.

That's a bit harsh. On the face of it, these knives look fantastic value. Amazon wouldn't have marked them at 75% off if they hadn't previously sold them at that price. I wouldn't have known about the difference. It's not an affiliate link. "AND... please be nice to other MoneySavers".

I've had my eyes on those henckel knives for a few months now, they've been that price for a long time on Amazon. The blade on these is actually the same as many of the more expensive Henckel, although I think it is missing the ice hardening of the 5*. The biggest difference is the handle when compared to the more expensive Henckel.

The "Stellar Sabatier" are of a similar flavour, Sabatier have really started selling some rubbish through their "stellar" range.

If you're budget minded I'd tend to go for the Henckel set, although the Sabatier won't be too bad either. However, neither of these are equivalent to a the likes of Global or Henckel 5*.

BIGLUGS what is your problem with 'newbies'? Do you suppose I actually own the whole of Amazon and want people to buy these knives? What could I possibly gain from posting what I thought was a bargain on Amazon. FYI I have lurked here for months but thought it was about time I registered and then get crap from you. I expect you're one of the people who bought 50 Dell Projectors and then whinged at the people who bought 2. Grow up and take a chill pill.

  • Not that I support biglugs, but in the past there have been some people obviously selling their own produce on the site at "super cheap" prices or as bargains.

This obviously isn't one of those cases (unless you do own Amazon and if you do can I get a voucher please?? ;))
