Long story short ..
Had to sell home ,have £12,000 from sale.
Have to move into private accom now.
Because I have no references landlord wants 6 mnth rent in advance .. I dont want him to know I will be claiming HB Would hb think I was trying to dispose of the money I made from the sale by doing this ?

You're allowed to have £16,000 of savigs before it affects your HB so there shouldn't be a problem.
Edit: ignore drunken ramblings.0 -
but savings above £6000 reduce the amount of benefit, and of course theres the old old problem of deprivation of capitalOldernotwiser wrote: »You're allowed to have £16,000 of savigs before it affects your HB so there shouldn't be a problem.0 -

Over £16k means no HB
Anything over £6k affects HB.
I'm not sure how HB would handle this situation as you'd be pre-aying somehing that would then be paid by HB. One option for HB would be to use the capital figure left after paying the 6 months up front but to add your HB payments to your capital figure each time a payment is made?
You'd definitely need to get somehting off the LL to confrm that THEY required you to pay the 6 months up front.0 -

Hi we did this and it was fine....I'm not sure if it would vary council to council though?
But we explained that we didn't have good credit hence wouldn't have passed the credit scoring and had no-one who could garauntor for us as they have to be home-owner working full time....
We were asked to provide receipts for everything though (inc the 6mth rent payment) and when we moved we also had to buy a new fridge freezer and bed etc as we had barely anything but we kept all the reciepts and had to hand them all in to the council.
Just a little note aswell, you will be asked to prove that you were FORCED into the sale of your home i.e on the verge of reposession or something similar, if they think you could have stayed there they will not pay a penny i'm afraid

We paid 6 months + 1 1/2 months for deposit this was paid by my parents when HB came through we paid them back again. The council here was fine with this and i doubt they wouldnt understand your situation either. Lots of LL require those who are not working to have garantors or pay up front. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0
