My dog eating slugs and snails...

Is there anyway I can stop our dog from eating slugs and snails from our back garden? We take her for two good walks a day and all day until late evening she has access to our big back garden. On a night time when I let her out she keeps finding them and eating them. I find it difficult to get her back in the house as she keeps them in her mouth and refuses to come in until she has finished eating them! I am worried eating them could affect her health but I don't want her doing it anyway. I can't buy slug pellets as I am worried I could poison the dog. Any ideas/advice appreciated.

It sounds like she is making a game out of her snail eating, she is certainly getting attention for it, it sounds yucky!
How about putting a baskerville muzzle on her when she goes out last thing? That way she can't eat snails and you don't have to worry or give her attention for doing it.

I've trained my dog with a 'leave it' command, and if I catch him with them, he will leave them if I tell him, but sometimes he's too quick and eats them before I get a chance.

The main thing I worry about is him contracting heartworm/lungworm from them. Make sure you tell your vet that your dog eats slugs and snails, so they can recommend the correct wormers if HW/LW are in your area.
