life expectancy of TV

Be grateful or any advice. I bought a Maxim 32" LCD television which I paid £600 for on 08/02/2006 delivered on 13/02/2006 from Currys store. The TV stopped working 23/09/2008 for no apparent reason. Do I have a case to get the TV repaired by manufacturer or supplier under he merchandisable value after warranty due to the TV only being just over 2 years old.
Need help desperately.
Many Thanks

  • All decent eletronic equipment has a MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure), usually quoted in hours.

Two years is a bit !!!!, unless you watched it continuously over that period.
I would definately expect a TV to last at least 3-4 years.

Get back to Currys and kick off politely, at first.
Someone will come along and quote the SOGA, so fear not, you should get some recourse.
  • Thankyou Ionkontrol, will def go back to Currys and try them first.

Best of luck, we had a fridge freezer that went wrong after 15 months which was bought from Currys. I gave them a call, and didnt really get any joy from the manager at the store, so asked for the managing directors details, and wrote to him. To be fair to him, his secretary replied saying they would consider repairing it, if I got a repair man to write a report (they did say they may refund me the cost of the report).
Notice they never say the will pay, its always a maybe. I kept quoting the SOGA, and also threatened them with trading standards.

In the end, I took out insurance from hotpoint and called them the day after, they sent someone out to repair it. Cost me £4.99 in total.

Most TVs are meant to last, on average for 1000 years although non branded rubbish like the make you bought would last roughly a fortnight.
