Hi
In our house we currently have a PC has a LAN connection to the net. We are with AOL and have wireless so mine and my brothers laptop works on the network. My mum now wants a laptop herself and to get rid of the PC so I have 2 questions:
First, anyone recommend a cheap laptop that has XP and Microsoft Office, enabled wireless...all we need from it is for basic net browsing nothing special with regards graphics cards/memory/processing speed.
Second, when we get rid of the PC how will the internet work? Do we need to keep the tower so that the LAN connection is always there. If not how will it work just wirelessly?
Cheers
Paul

what does the pc connect with its wire to before it gets to the telephone socket?. if this is a router and it is wireless then you will all be able to connect to it and it will work stand alone. the router connects to the net and not the pc. you can try this now by swithing the pc off, leave the router on and connect to it with the laptop. if you only have a wired router then i guess you must be connecting to someone else net connection without realising it.
as for the laptop recommendation then i got one from ebuyer although it came with vista and no office but there are free versions of non ms office around and vista is quite good. it cost <£3000
