I recently moved into a rented flat in the london area, it took a while to sort out my gas and electric.
My landlord has installed a prepayment meter for the electric, which Ive changed over to EBICO as my supplier, I need to now sort out my gas, I understand British Gas click energy is good and cheap, does anyone else have any ideas.

I have done a few comparsions

cheers

The BG Click Energy tariff is due to have a price rise of 20-30% soon, so I would personally steer well clear of that. Call up your current gas supplier and ask them to tell you what your current tariff is, ask them for the prices in pence per unit. They should be able to give you this information.

They will probably give you two prices, the "primary" unit price, which is the cost of the first so many units per quarter, and the "secondary" which is the price per unit for all usage beyond the primary unit limit. A made up example would be "8.013 pence per unit up to 1150KWh, then 4.243 pence per unit thereafter".

Once you have these prices, you can go to http://www.energyhelpline.com, do a comparison, and then look at the information for each tariff individually where it will have the unit prices for you to compare against what you are currently paying.

This is complicated, but it the only way to do a proper comparison you can trust.

Is your gas meter a pre-payment one too?

If so, you probably won't find cheaper than ebico.

Even if it isn't, you'll still be hard pressed to beat ebico @ 2.86p per kWh inc VAT unless you use a lot of gas when BG click 5 paying monthly by DD may beat it. (5.968p for the first 670 kWh per quarter, and 2.504p thereafter plus 10.3% discount off quarterly consumption, up to a maximum of £16.89 per quarter)

  • Hi

No the gas isnt on a pre pay meter, ebico use southern electric as their agent, but on every compare I have done they have all said warning 20-30 percent increase is likely soon for them
  • In the end I moved my gas to scottish power, as ebico was only slighty cheaper as they have now upped their prices!
