This is a complicated one.
There is a possibility that my husband will be made redundant in the coming months so have been looking at our life and are planning to do something different for the next couple of years.
My husband has been left an overseas property in his relatives will which we are planning to rennovate and then rent out in the future. It is currently in a right state and not fit to live in. The plan is that for the next couple of years we will work for 6 months in the UK doing contract work and then travel abroad to work on the renovations for the next six month period. During the time abroad, we will not be earning a salary or monies from any other means but living off money we have put aside.
The UK will still be our main home and I have checked that we would still be classed as UK resident for tax purposes so surely that works both ways in that we are entitled to tax credits but ONLY during the time that we are physically present in the UK
My question is this, when we return to the UK for each six month period, we will both need to work full time and our little boy will need to go into childcare. Will we still be entitled to help with child care costs whilst we are in the UK providing we do not earn more than the threshold? We would obviously inform the Inland revenue once we had finished our jobs and were leaving the UK - we are not planning on any sort of fiddle, we just want to see if our plans are possible.

As long as you are resident in the UK there should be no problem claiming as long as you inform TCO before you leave the UK again, giving them your forwarding address.0
