help -monitor resolution changed

Options
Can anyone help or advise me. A friend's child was 'fiddling' and managed to change the screen resolution. Now I've got multiple overlapping fuzzy screens so I can't see control panels for example.

Right click Properties on the desktop, then Settings Tab.

That's going to be a problem, if they can't see the screen. :rotfl:

By the sounds of it, the refresh rate has been set to a rate the monitor can't support - you can sort this out, by starting up into safe mode.

Since you haven't said what you're running, I am going to make the assumption you are running Windows XP.

Turn the computer off, by holding the power button in for at least four seconds. Wait a couple of seconds, and turn it on again.

Now when a computer starts up, it usually first shows you the memory size, and the details of the harddrive and processor. Then it will start to load Windows. You need to start pressing the F8 key (don't hold it down) about twice a second, until you see the following menu:

Choose the first option, Safe Mode. When Windows loads, right click the desktop (a blank area, not an icon) > Properties > Settings > Advanced > Monitor > tick "Hide modes that the monitor cannot display" then change the refresh rate to 60 Hertz. Press Apply, make sure it's working fine - if so, press Yes > Ok > Ok.

    Now immediately restart Windows.

That is not what they said.

Alt + Tab to select each window followed by Alt + F4 to kill it.

    Then as post #2.

Maybe I'm blind, didn't they say they "can't actually see what's on the screen"?;)

Follow my post, but do this instead:
When Windows loads, right click the desktop (a blank area, not an icon) > Properties > Settings > choose a screen resoloution.
