Would like to Spend 3 Months in America?

Hi,
Need some advice. I want to possibly head into America for 3 months next year, most likely in February-April or March to May.
I want to spend some time in New York City and then possibly in a month go into California, to possibly LA/San Diego.
I was wondering what sort of Budget will i need to spend 3 months? Would it be possible to get some work of the books, i know its illegal but something which will last me a week or two.
Where could i possibly stay for a month in NYC and month+ in California?
Anything i should look out for and any more advice that can help me out?
Thank You

Not sure if this will help or not but a friend of mine stayed in the USA for 6 months a few years ago and was travelling aroung a lot. She got jobs where you drive people's or companys car from A to B for them (usually quite a long distance) and got paid for it. If I remember right some were when people hac bought cars but were flying back home and this was the way of getting the car back and other times it was for Car Hire co's. Sorry if this seems a bit vague.0

I have a funny feeling that after a certain amont of days she went to somewhere outwith usa (possibly Mexico ) then re entered to get another few months, I don't see her very often now and only ever hear from her via Xmas /birthday cards but will try and get more information if I do.0

Does anyone know how much budget i should have for 3 months and how i can look for a off the books job?Charles J0 -
Going to Mexico or anywhere else in North America & certain nearby islands doesn't work as you can't renew a Visa Waiver that way. Going to South America / Europe or further afield MIGHT work but it's up to the guy on the immigration desk if you'd be allowed back into the US.MINMOUSE wrote:I have a funny feeling that after a certain amont of days she went to somewhere outwith usa (possibly Mexico ) then re entered to get another few months, I don't see her very often now and only ever hear from her via Xmas /birthday cards but will try and get more information if I do.0 -
Doing a trip like this would require an open airline ticket, am i right? if so are these more expensive than a normal return flight to New York?
i'm also interested in doing something like this in the near future.:wave:0 -
if you want to go longer term, look at BUNAC - they work out visas etc and get you a job too....
