Does anyone know if a new sky wireless router can be set up with wpa or wpa2 encryption as that is the prefered choice and does anyone know the link to that site which creates long passwords for this please?
Thanx

Sky provide Netgear routers as far as I know, so they should be able to use WPA.
Using a long password doesn't really have much practical advantage for the home user.
Just make sure whatever password you do choose is a random mix of 8 - 10 alpha-numeric characters.0 -
Yep, it can use WPA2014 running challenge 471.95 km / 1000 km.0

Thankyou espresso
That is the one I used myself before but I lost the link so thanx for that. Daughter is trying to set up her sky wireless modem at her new rented place. I advised her that wpa would be more secure than wep and wanted to give her this passphrase link. I'm not sure if she might have to set it up with an ordinary one though first before she can get online because she cant get the link till shes online though, I hope it wont be too difficult to change it once its set upThanx

Sky routers come WPA security enabled. You will find the network key on the bottom or the side of the router on a stickly label. It will be with the SSID and it will be a line of letters. Pop that in in capital letters and you should done. If you wish to change to WEP and you know how to do so then the router settings page link is: 192.168.0.1. If you get stuck at any point give sky tech team a bell. Hope that helps!0

i wouldnt advice changing to WEP if someone wanted to they could crack it within 5-10 minutes0 -
Her boyfriend set it up as sky instructs with the code they give with each router I think, from what I gather it covers wpa automatically unless he selected wep although the passphrase he gave my daughter isnt very long. He didnt have time to redo it with a passphrase from espressos link as he was going to work. It now seems like hes happy with that and cant be bothered the change to the longer passphrase. Will this be ok? How can she check if its wpa or wep just be be sure?
I dont really like the idea of a passphrase already selected by sky, it might be easier for most people but its not as secure as creating your own, its stuck on the box and paperwork apparentlyThanx

I wouldn't worry about the length of the key unless you see someone with a laptop camping in your garden for a few weeks.
As for the key being selected by Sky, unless all the routers Sky supplies have exactly the same key, I'm not really sure how that makes any difference.0 -
Thankyou loaner thats a very usefull link and with the instructions on how to change the default passphrass it should make it much easier for them. I'm not sure if that is the exact router they have been given but I'll tell my daughter to check.
They do live in close proximity to other people which is why I'm a little more concerned. They live in a building that is devided into 8 appartment/flats and you just never know plus the houses near them are very close.Thanx
