British gas - meter reading

Options
I have now decided to always let British gas ( or whoever my supplier is ) have my reading off the Gas meter.... as long as the price is likely to go up because...

They e-mailed me saying a bill was ready and when I looked at it it showed an estimated reading. We only use gas for heating and have had it turned off the last three months so I checked the meter. The reading was less than the previous bills estimated reading. I gave them the new reading and of course I end up paying at the new rate for gas they estimate was used this quarter but was in fact used in the previous quarter ( if only I'd given them the reading then, I did take a note of it !). Now the extra I'm paying turns out to be about £4 + vat but thats money I could have kept if only I'd given them my meter reading.
