How much is it to get an aerial put on the roof?

We've never had an aerial as we've always had sky, anyone know roughly how much it would cost?

I think we need the actual aerial putting on the roof and I want one going to both sons bedroom so they can have freeview.

Thanks

  • Varies on where you live, what type of aerial you need, how many points you need.

    £100 -£150 should be OK.

I needed a longer mast, double anchors, best quote for North London was £250.
  • Ariels will work just fine in your attic if you have one, they don't need to be outside; also they don't need to be on the roof.

If your getting them digital freeview boxes as long as you are in a digital area then really you can stick the ariel anywhere.

Check out the ariels above; easy to install and will save you a small fortune.

I have to say this is a rather glib and totally misleading answer.

At present digital terrestrial TV is being transmitted on much lower power than analogue - so you will need a better aerial than you would for analogue. If your loft is lined with foil covered boards under the tiles, as many are, you won't pick anything up - except spiders !
Even if you are relatively close to the transmitter you will probably need an external aerial. In any case it will not be wasted !

As for "you can stick the aeriel (sic) anywhere" - this is a highly technical response, it could be very painful and you certainly won't get a picture !

9 times out of 10 a normal aerial, in the loft, will work ok.

ps. round here they advertise "aerials fitted for 49 quid".
    Get some gorm.

For those who can't spell aerial www. satcure .co.uk /tech/digital_ariel.htm (sorry forum screwed the link - you'll have to reassemble yourselves!)
Alot of very useful information in the technical section of that site. You should find the answers to most of your questions on freeview and aerial installation there.

  • A good way to establish whether a loft aerial will work or not is to look at your neighbours. If they all have external aerials then the chances are that you will also need one. Likewise if they have very long masts then you will need one as well.
Otherwise round here (the midlands) the cost is usually a little over £100 for an external aerial fitted.

i live in liverpool and not long ago had it done - i just got someone out of the echo.

they drill from the inside out so:

make sure they put a seal around the hole on the outside to prevent damp.
