IMPO, touch wood, keeping your savings in somewhere like the Nationwide or Leeds or HSBC, or Llloyds until they took over HBOS, is preferable and safer, again touch wood, than putting money in the Bradford & Bing or the A&L (Is A&L considered 'safe' now they are owned by Santander?) or some of the banks who are considered more at risk because of all their mortgage and BTL mortgage lending?

    Does the above make sense?
This is not financial nor legal nor property advice. Consult a paid professional if in doubt.

I understand you like to touch a lot of wood, hope you carry a plank with you at all times. Santander is huge, A&L is safe. Yes some are considered more at risk obviously but they are not risky.

Do you know this for a fact, or is it just a personal opinion?

Personally, I would rather not risk having all my savings in one place – especially if it is one of the big banks. Obviously, as I stated above, from my own observations other people feel the same.

You, of course, are also free to express your opinion – but surely it is just that, not some deep insight into the financial world.

This forum just seems full of the most paranoid people on the planet, how risk averse can you be.

As risk-averse as you want to be!

    I thought that about HBOS!!!!

Don't get me wrong I am not one of those who thinks the big banks will go under, let's face it the Government couldn't let that happen, and I don't have £35K to worry about, but I can completely understand why others might worry.

Afterall there is so much hype/mis-information as well as accurate information flying at us from all directions, the average person on the street is not necessarily going to know what to believe.

Just my opinion, might not be worth much, but still all mine! :rotfl:

    Euphamism for "The Daily Mail."

It's the group that owns them (Possibly clarified in later posts - I haven't got that far yet.)

    Full of...

    What?....

You saying I'm paranoid? They're out to get me, I'm telling you...

My £0.01 in ICICI is at risk here!!!

And my £0.02 in ING Direct!!! (It might be £0.02000001 by now, I'm not sure.)

(And on a (slightly more sensible note) my pension fund !!!(you get the idea. I hope,) but since I expect my fund to outlast the current bout of hysteria I'm not at all worried. )

    Where's my tin-foil hat....)
