Having a B&Q nightmare - will this work?

I'd appreciate some advice. Way back in June I ordered a kitchen from B&Q (big mistake - never again). They spread the deliveries over 3 dates the last one being today. Today I have checked what they have delivered and there are 3 items missing. Gave them a ring and they now can't deliver until 12th November (due to stock issues apparently)! I have checked on their website and all the bits I need are available in my local B&Q store so I thought that I could go there and buy them, keep the receipt and when the delivery arrives in November take the 3 items that are delivered back to the B&Q store with the receipt and get a refund from the store. Is this likely to work?

I'm now fed up with having a dining room full of kitchen cabinets and doors!

Thanks for reading.

If you are absolutely sure they are available in another store give them the ultimatum that they have to get them to you. They will say that they can't or won't or the stock systems are different. I had the same problem with my bathroom and just stood by the kitchen and bathroom ordering point talking to them (and putting off other clients) until they agreed to it. Got my parts two days later.

  • Thanks. I should have said that I ordered originally online and that is what is causing the problem apparently!

I ordered mine in store and got everything delivered on one day and I added materials on line and got them to added to the Delivery. Did you get a quote because if you did the is a number to ring to get any thing that is missing delivered striaght away. I have had no problems with them.
  • madjay - I have rang them this morning and they say they can't deliver until November due to 'stock issues'.

Sorry to hear of your hassle with B&Q, I also ordered a kitchen with B&Q a little over a year ago now and it seems nothing has changed with them. When our kitchen was delivered we had all the handles missing, no sink and no dishwasher. I called the customer service immediately to be told similar to yourself that items had 'stock issues' and would be over another 6 weeks before delivered. My reply was ok then your vehicle is still sat outside and the goods piled on my driveway, take it all away. Guess what, that shaved about 4 weeks off the delivery estimate. With regards to my handles I cancelled them off my order, then I went and bought something different in store, however the originals eventually also turned up so I took these back for a credit also. Serves them right.

to the OP i think your original idea will work, assuming the items are identical - B&Q are really good at no quible returns... the only issue is if its after a certain amount of time you'll only get a credit note not a cash refund i think anyway... though i buy some much stuff that wouldn't bother me too much..

Either cancel what's left of your online order and buy them from the store or go with your original idea and take back the online ones when they are delivered. Your receipt is good for 90 days so you have plenty of time to get a refund of those bought from store.

B and Q and kitchens ..shudder. It started to go wrong when we drove 80 miles for our appointment in the shop and salesman didn't turn up and had to be phoned at home and then arrived severely hung over 2 hours late.

I was renovating a property so went to the store local to the house and ordered a kitchen and paid a large deposit. Arranged for surveyor to come out, explained where the house was, left an address (obviously) and made sure they understood that the address they took was the one where the surveyor and the kitchen needed tobe. We had a bit of a laugh about how other shops migh tmuddle up billing address with address of the house to be surveyed. OH drove back 80 miles the following week to meet surveyor, only surveyor turned up at our house in London instead. Surveyor was teed off, said he would never work for B and Q again as they hadn't got a clue.

OH drove 80 back home again. Then it went downhill, they couldn't order the kitchen without a survey, they couldn't get a surveyor out, they lost the deposit, they lost the order, they lost all our details ( three times) they arranged another surveyor and this time I made B and Q give me his number and I phoned him before the appointment only to find that he had also left B and Q several months earlier and was not aware they were even still supposedly booking him. He was very impolite about B and Q and said he was persuing them for money owed.

We ended up going to the managing director and got a full refund 5 months later as they admitted they didn't know what to do to get the survey done and the kitchen ordered.

We meanwhile had ordered a gas hob having got another independent fitter in to do the kitchen, I drove 80 miles to the house and gas hob didn't arrived. Once again they knew nothing about it couldn't trace the delivery or the order, that time I got a refund and £20 compensation within a week.
