I am currently claiming contributions based JSA . they have told me as off 6th December 08, this will stop as i would of been claiming for 6 mnths.I currently own a shared ownership property 50%. At present HB pay a portion of my rent side.which is helpful. The mortgage side the other 50% is a mortgage of 62,500 on interest only. which i get no assistance with. Am i right in thinking if i do not find a job by the 6th December 08. That i will have to go on to Income Support?.Is that automatic? will my HB for the rental side of my property still be paid. And is there any chance of any assistance with my mortgage payments once in receipt of income support. Would i have to wait the 39 wks for any help with the mortgage?
Any help greatly appreciated...

In short most likely you would have to move to claim non contribution JSA which is means tested, unless you meet the following criteria. What is Income Support?
This is extra money to help people on a low income.
It is for people who don't have to sign on as unemployed.
This could be if you are:
sick or disabled
a lone parent
a carer, or
registered blind.
Can I get Income Support?
It is for people who:
are 16 to 59 years old
have a low income
work less than 16 hours a week
are not in full-time study
do not get Jobseeker's Allowance
do not have savings above £16,000, and
live in Great Britain
You would be better off finding employment doing 30+ hours a week to be honest even if its a dead end £200 p/w job thats more than the benefits would pay. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0 -
Thank you for the reply... Would i have to start my claim all over again for my HB once they take me off contributions based JSA.And would i still be entitled to my child tax credit.even if i was on income support or means tested JSA. ALso what would be the qualifying period for help with my interest payments on my mortgage if any?
At present i have mortgage protection which is due to run out soon..
/thank you once again..0 -
No entitlement to CTC if your on IS, but they do pay the child element of IS instead.
Mortgage interest assistance currently has a 39 week waiting period from the time you started to receive an eligible benefit. Get in touch and see if the time you've been on JSA counts towards that.....Cheryl0 -
Just checked the information booklet I have, and it appears contribution based JSA doesn't count -- it only refers to IS or Income Based JSA..... so looks like you'll have to wait 39 weeks from the time your current JSA end (assuming you took your mortgage out since 1st Oct 1995).Cheryl0
