Is there any hope for my laptop.....??

I've got a problem with my laptop. Where the power lead goes in at the back there is clearly something loose so I plug it in but the power goes on and off sometimes every second and it is switching from power to battery, hence the screan dimming. If I pull the lead and secure it then I can get it charged but I then have to unplug it til it has run out of power as the lead gets really hot. i let it run out and plug it back in again and so on, but it is an older model, I probably get half an hour from it before it has run out...... but if I have the power lead in when I am working on then the screen flashes where it is going on and off and it drives me nuts.
If you know what I mean.
So, can something like this be fixed or is it doomed and should I be looking for something else?? I have it on all day and at the moment am working on it all day - that is 4 hours in the evening and then 6 hours during the day - sometimes more. I need the laptop because of work so I can't really send it away to be fixed as no laptop means I cannot deal with the business stuff that comes through which means I cannot process orders, plus I have a website so I do need it at the moment.
I thought it was the powerpack so went out and bought another. It wasn't Doh!! £35 down the drain!! Any ideas, please.

Sounds like repair or new lapop are your only options!
Is there no shops that do pepairs while you wait near you? I think PC world do it but they won't be cheap.
Hope you get it sorted.😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬0 -

Hi If you knew what you are doing it's a straight forward soldering job to the power socket in the laptop, very easy to do, but I guess you would have done it yourself by now if you could. Its a few screws to remove and get down to the motherboard and remove that. Try to find someone locally a tv repair place if they are still around.....If you are in S/London drop in.0

Ah well. I've mentioned this to my hubby but think we might go for a new option as I have sold a few bits this week. This is a slow system for what it is I guess and we do know that the Hard Drive is already on it's way out a few months ago it totally dies. It whirrs a lot and everything so I guess that the inevitable is coming and with having all my accounting programs and everything on it as well then it is not something I can put off any longer.
Thanks for your help, guess it is time to start looking.0 -

Thanks for that, no S. London unfortunately. As I said above, there are other issues with it so time to start looking around. Cheers.0
