Untick 'Allow broadcast of name (SSID)', since your laptop will have already received the correct name.0

HELP! I've been at it for hours........ :embarasse:undecided  :rolleyes2
I am trying to connect laptop wirelessly to router.
It works with cable.
It works without security, I am now stuck trying to do WEP encryption.
I've been over & over & over the settings but computer says no.
It says limited or no connectivity.Torgwen.....................

Basic steps are: in router config, allow broadcast of name (SSID), select WEP security, select Encryption Strength (64 or 128 bit), enter a Passphrase and generate 4 Keys. Select one of the keys and note the index (1-4).
On the wireless computer, open Network Connections. Right-click Wireless Network Connection and click Properties. On Wireless Networks tab, double-click your wireless network in the list of Preferred Networks. On Association tab, select Network Authentication as Open and Data encryption as WEP. Type in the Network key (not the passphrase) from the router config and select the corresponding Key index.0 -

I had ignored the key number as I wasn't sure what it referred to!

Excellent! :T
Now disable Broadcast of name (SSID) and enable Wireless station access list to totally lock down security.0 -
WEP? use wpa-psk, it's more secure:

You should change your encryption from WEP to WPA or WPA2 as WEP is almost like having no encryption! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
