problem sending emails ~ on virgin media using microsoft outlook ~ help me please

I have been happily plodding along using my ntlworld email account via Microsoft outlook with no problems , however I tried to send an email last night and it was just stuck in my out box with the following error
'task amelias.mummy@ntlworld.com - sending reported error (0x800CCCF) the connection to the server was interrupted. If the problem persists contact your server administrator or internet service provider. The server responded:421aamtaout-win.ispmail.ntl.com connection refused [86.27.208.224]' ( obviously used fake address)

I can receive emails via Outlook no problems and can send emails if I log into my virgin account but cannot send them via outlook.

I have rung virgin and the pop and smtp servers were checked and these are correct, however as I use Microsoft outlook they could not get any more help from them as they do not have the 'technical support for this application'. it was suggested to me to get outlook express put on my computer as they had the technical support for this.( didn't know whether to laugh or cry at this suggestion)

ISP Virgin and email via virgin, I also have AVG and commodo firewall, and been using all thes together no probs until last night

I really don't know what to do to resolve the situation of sending via outlook, ( i have searced the forum for same scnario but couldn't find any resolution)

I am not very technical BTW but don't believe I have tampered with any settings or aything

I've had a similar problem in the past when using my yahoo account with outlook 2003 via virginmedia. All was fine and then all of a sudden I had send/receive problems. My solution was to go into outlook/tools/e mail accounts/view or change.../highlight the account followed by change and then enter the settings again. The more settings button/advanced tab is where you enter the POP3 and SMTP port settings

From memory the correct settings are available on the virginmedia website in the help section. I have moved to O2 now so can't point you to the help document as I haven't access to the virginmedia account help anymore.

    Hope that helps

Are you using the correct setting? Make sure they look something like this:

    Incoming Server: pop.ntlworld.com
    Outgoing Server: smtp.ntlworld.com
    Your Name: Joe Bloggs
    Email Address: joe.bloggs3@ntlworld.com
    User Name: joe.bloggs3
Password: whatever you use to access your email address

Thanks.....Yep , checked all this on the phone with the virgin helpline all info is correct. I have re-entered it as advised below so took a scren print of what was confirmed as correct and then re-entered it. I have been using virgin and outlook for a good while, there have been no changes to my computer yet it has just started to happen:confused:

  • I have been experiencing similar problems with my blueyonder emails.
last Tues, Sep-23, it stopped sending emails, with an error message. but, I havent received any emails from that account either.
they say they are looking inot it, but after 8 days, I am still without email facilities.
Is this the same problem, or different?
(apologies for hijacking your thread if different)

Check the Virgin service status page at http://status-cable.virginmedia.com/vmstatus/summary.do

Email has a red indicator on the main page which indicates problems. You can choose your area from a drop down list and it should give you a bit more info. I googled your error code and one of the symptoms can be server problems. I know you've rung them - I don't know if they looked at the possibility of their mail servers having issues...
