EON lying to me?
Options
In jun 08, i signed up to the EON Energy online extra saver 7 plan, ready to start 3 Jul 08. Although you had to sign up online i had trouble doing so and signed up over the telephone.
Now, due to this site and knowing of the oncoming price hikes, i specifically asked for a fixed rate tarriff and was given the one mentioned above which i was told was fixed until Oct 09.
I today have received a letter from EON stating that i will be having a price increase effective from 22 Aug 08.
Gas:
WAS 4.35 NOW 6.21
WAS 2.77 NOW 3.38
Elec:
WAS 18.33 NOW 23.83
WAS 10.05 NOW 10.15.
I have contacted EON who state that the fixed price was for my discount only not the unit price. Yet i specifically asked for a unit fixed price.
I have no correspondence from EON regarding my tarriffs, as it was all done over the telephone, but i know what i wanted and i know what i signed up to. The customer services person states they cannot help but states a manager will call me back within 24 hours.
Any thoughts or advice?

I too have had a letter today stating the price increase. I was told over the phone when I fixed the price that the prices would not go up until at least October 2009. Does anyone know what we can do about this?0

Hi,
I received my letter today informing me of the price increase when I believed I was capped.
I was very specific when I switched from B.Gas with a comparison website which definately stated that the tariff I had selected (Energy online extra saver standing charge 7) was capped until Nov 09, the only reason I switched was for that fact and no other.
Spoke to Eon today and they are positive that my tariff was never capped nor will it be.
I have searched through my paperwork from Eon and all I can find is a guaranteed discount of 4.3% for managing bills online until Nov 09.
Strange that the price increase has also dropped the dual fuel discount from 9% to 8% and also the 4.3% has been omitted from their calculations.
Old discount totalled 13.3% (6 direct debit, 3 dual fuel, 4.3 til 09' for managering bills online)
New discount 8% (dual fuel discount only)
Something fishy going on here, looks like a few others in the same boat.
Where do we stand?
Brgds

The Energy Online tariffs are not capped or fixed. All you get is fixed discount up to a certain date.
You probably have been misled by the agent on the phone in which case i would raise a complaint but i doubt E.ON would do much as the paperwork does not mention the unit prices are fixed/capped.
Working for E.ON what i do know is that some customers have recieved a price increase letter in error, if you're sure you signed upto a capped/fixed tariff ring upto double check. Exact copies of letters are kept on the system which can prove what paperwork you were sent at the time which the agent on the phone can check.
The dual fuel direct debit discount has indeed gone down to 8% from 9% on most tariffs...a way to make more money obviously  .0 -
Hi,
......I was very specific when I switched from B.Gas with a comparison website which definately stated that the tariff I had selected (Energy online extra saver standing charge 7) was capped until Nov 09, the only reason I switched was for that fact and no other......
Afraid not, the discount is guaranteed, the underlying rate is variable. I'd be suprised if a price comparison site made that error........Working for E.ON what i do know is that some customers have recieved a price increase letter in error, if you're sure you signed upto a capped/fixed tariff ring upto double check........
The data capture for who would be sent what letter was made on 22nd Aug so if you've changed tariffs since then the letter could be a little confusing.0 -
I think there may have been a problem with comparison sites around this time, their wording of the energy online tariffs, or simply because they were the only ones available through E.On when they removed the price protection plans, made customers sign to them as they said "fixed discount til 2009" but aren't actually capped rates. Whether customers were misunderstanding this or comparison sites were inaccurate it is not known, but energy online is definitely not a capped product but it is guaranteed discount until next year.
This is sent out in the welcome pack within the 1st week and should state in their the exact plan and discounts, and does not mention that it is a capped rate.Dannii_B
